Modern family home Hampstead
Complete back to brick, reconfiguration and total modernisation of two mid-century terraced Hampstead town houses.
The Brief
We were involved with this project from very early on when the client was seeking planning permission to extend and completely modernise two mid-century terraced town houses. Working closely with the client, his representative and architect over several months, planning was eventually granted for loft conversions and complete internal reconfiguration of the houses essentially only retaining the outside walls and reorientating the inside.
The Challenge
The project involved a great deal of complex structural work. The only fully retained part of the properties were the party walls. This involved a huge amount of demolition, propping, ground works to reduce the floor levels and structural steel. This required not only careful onsite management but also working with the neighbours to minimise noise disruption and to maintain good neighbourly relations not just for us during the course of the works but ultimately for our client.
The Result
This was the client’s first foray into building projects, and it was not a straightforward project! The client started the project wanting to develop and sell the properties but he was so happy with the process and finished product that he now lives in one of the properties and has kept the other as an investment property.
